Description

The Santa Cruz trek explores three important valleys of the Huascarán National Park: Quebrada de Santa Cruz, Huaripampa and Llanganuco.

During the 4 days you will hike in the heart of the Cordillera Blanca enjoying a beautiful view of the Andean landscapes, passing through ancient pre-Inca roads surrounded by quenuales forests and exotic high Andean flora, also rivers with crystal clear waters, lagoons and the impressive view that the “Punta Unión” pass offers us of the snow-capped mountains of the Cordillera Blanca such as: Alpamayo, Artesonraju, Taulliraju, Chacraraju, Chopicalqui, Huandoy, Huascarán, among others.

What's included

  • Transport: From your hotel in Huaraz to the starting point of the trek, and from the end of the trek to your hotel in Huaraz.
  • Camping: Good quality mountain tents (2 people per tent), mattresses, dining tent, kitchen tent, tables, chairs, dishes and kitchen utensils.
  • Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner (option for vegetarians or vegans).
  • Guide: Certified trekking guide (English or Spanish) for another language by request.
  • Cook: Trained cook to prepare varied and healthy dishes.
  • Donkey driver: In charge of loading the donkeys and driving them.
  • Donkeys: The number of donkeys depends on the size of the group. You can carry up 6kg of personal items that will be loaded onto the donkeys. During the day you will only carry your backpack with things for personal use.
  • First aid kit.

Not included

  • Huscaran National Park entrance fee.
  • Personal trekking equipment: Sleeping bag (it is possible to rent in Huaraz), trekking shoes or boots, jacket and/or waterproof pants, poncho, backpack, flashlight, etc.
  • Additional costs: as a result of leaving the trek early, emergency rescue and/or evacuation, extra food or drinks in towns, medical treatment.
  • Breakfast the first day and dinner the last day.

Itinerary

Cashapampa to Vaqueria

Transfer by transport to Cashapampa, here we begin our walk towards Llamacorral.

Driving time: 3 hours / Hiking time: 5 hours aprox.
Campsite: Llamacorral (4,250 m)

This day we start walking very early, during the journey we will be able to appreciate the Ichiccocha and Jatuncocha lagoons, view of the snow-capped mountains: Caraz, Quitaraju, Artesonraju and Alpamayo.

Hiking time: 5-6 hours
Campsite: Taullipampa (4,250 m)

It is the most difficult day because the walk is ascending until the Punta Unión pass 4,750 m. From here we will have a beautiful panoramic view of the Santa Cruz valley and the snow-capped mountains: Quitaraju, Taulliraju, Artesonraju, Huascarán, Contrahierbas, etc.

Hiking time: 7-8 hours
Campsite: Cachinapampa (3,750 m)

This last day we will have a short walk to Vaquería where our transport awaits us for the transfer to Huaraz.

Driving time: 5 hours / Hiking time: 3 hours aprox.

Good to Know

We recommend acclimatization before the trek, 1 or 2 days hike around Huaraz.

Recommended hikes: Churup, Laguna 69, Laguna Wilcacocha

The starting point of the trek is able to change previous coordination or by client request.

Vaquería to Cashapampa:

Day 01: Huaraz – Vaquería – Paria
Day 02: Paria – Punta Union Pass – Taullipampa
Day 03: Taullipampa – Arhuaycocha alpamayo view point – Llamacorral
Day 04: Llamacorral – Cashapampa – Huaraz

  • Waterproof clothing in case of rain.
  • Sun protection: Sunscreen, hat, etc.
